From Building to Products

In 11 September 1982, the construction of the building which houses what is currently known as BIOTECH UPLB was finished through the Ferdinand E. Marcos Foundation. Now 33 years later almost to the day, the daughter of the former President, Ms. Irene Araneta has come back to BIOTECH. Apparently, after experiencing firsthand the effectiveness of BIOTECH products, Ms. Araneta bought Animal Probiotics, Microbial Rennet and Mykovam on 10 September 2015.

BIOTECH’s Animal Probiotics contain lactic acid bacteria. These products inhibit pathogenic bacteria in the intestines, stimulates the growth of animals and keeps them healthier.

Rennet is a liquid used to coagulate milk in cheese-making. It traditionally comes from an enzyme derived from the stomachs of calves, lambs or goats. The BIOTECH Rennet which is derived from a microorganism can make more cheese from the same amount of milk and with better stability compared to animal rennet.

Mykovam isa soil-based biofertilizer which has a fungi called vesicular arbuscular mycorrhiza (VAM) as its active ingredient. It is good for reforestation species, fruit trees, some agricultural crops and ornamentals.

BIOTECH UPLB was established to develop cost-effective and environment friendly technologies for the production of goods and services that are comparable or better alternatives to conventional products. The Institute has remained faithful to its mandate.
