BIOTECH products dominate 3rd Invention Disclosure Awarding Ceremony 

Nine UPLB-BIOTECH inventions and their respective inventors were feted during the 3rd Invention Disclosure Awarding Ceremony held the Institute of Biology Auditorium on 13 October 2017. The inventions/technology products of BIOTECH include Acticon by researchers Irene A. Papa, M.Sc. and Teofila Zulaybar, M.Sc.; PECM, Dr. Laura J. Pham; Pili Pulp Oil, Dr. Laura J. Pham and Dr. Chay B. Pham; Cacao Pod Husk, Teresita J. Ramirez, M.Sc. and Arsenia Sapin, M.Sc.; Mykoplus, Dr. Jocelyn Zarate and Dr. Reynaldo E. dela Cruz; Micromix, Dr. Mannix S. Pedro, Dr. Marilyn B. Brown and Lovely B. Willauer, M.Sc.; WiltCure, Dr. Eufrocinio C. Marfori; and MFC Systems, Dr. Richard T. Tambalo and Dr. Mannix S. Pedro.

Overall, there were 21 inventions recognized in the awarding ceremony. These include innovative products from UP Diliman, UP Manila and UPLB’s Institute of Chemistry.

Dr. Maria Cynthia Rose Banzon Bautista, UP Vice President for Acedemic Affairs formally opened the program , followed by an audio-visual presentation of past IDI awardees. The Invention Disclosure Incentive or IDI is an incentive program granted to inventors, researchers, faculty members, students, staff and visiting professors undertaking research and/or creative activities pursuant to any program, project grant or contract under the auspices of the University, who discloses the existence and assign patent rights and other related rights to the following inventions to the University in accordance with the UP Intellectual Property Rights Policy. The proposal to provide financial incentive for filing an invention disclosure was approved by the UP Board of Regents during its 1305th Meeting held on 29 January 2015.

The IDI Awarding Ceremony is envisioned as a  homage and a proud celebration of the achievements of the men and women of UP who, through years of hard and challenging research work, have transformed knowledge into innovations that would serve and for the benefit of the public.
