DOST Secretary Montejo visits BIOTECH

 

biotech_dost_sec_visitScience and Technology Secretary Mario G. Montejo led officials of the Department of Science and Technology (DOST) who visited BIOTECH on Feb. 10.

The DOST visitors, who included Undersecretary Carol M. Yorobe and Engr. Raul C. Sabularse, deputy executive director of the Philippine Council for Industry, Energy and Emerging Technology Research and Development (PCIEERD), met with Dr. Reynaldo V. Ebora, BIOTECH director; Dr. Enrico P. Supangco; vice chancellor for research and extension; Dr. Asuncion K. Raymundo, dean of the College of Arts and Sciences, and other senior staff of BIOTECH. 

Dr. Ebora briefed Secretary Montejo about BIOTECH's programs and initiatives on technology transfer, promotion and information dissemination. After the presentations, the guest were given a tour of the Institute's facilities and exhibits. The group visited the Central Analytical Services Laboratory, Electron Microscopy Service Laboratory, Philippine National Collection of Microorganisms  (PNCM), Food, Feed and Specialty Products Laboratory, and the production facilities for Microbial Rennet, Mykovam, and BioN.

Secretary Montejo also visited the Fermentation Engineering and Service Laboratory (pilot plant) to assess its capacity in the upscale production of enzymes, fertilizers, and other BIOTECH products. He expressed his support for the rehabilitation of the pilot plant.

The PCIEERD, formerly Philippine Council for Advanced  Science and Technology Research and Development (PCASTRD) and Philippine Council for Industry and Energy Research and Development (PCIERD), also approved the P400,000 proposal of BIOTECH for the improvement of its lobby exhibits and production of an audio visual presentation. BIOTECH also received a P10M equipment grant from the then PCASTRD last year to further improve the facilities of the PNCM. (RADorado)
