Electron Microscopy Services Laboratory
The Electron Microscopy Service Laboratory (EMSL) is the only functional service laboratory in UPLB that caters to the needs of researchers, students, government and private institutions for ultrastructure analysis. EMSL specializes in biological sample preparation for both scanning electron microscopy (SEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM), needed prior to digital imaging of the samples under the electron microscope. The laboratory is open for collaboration and provides technical assistance to researchers and industries in the field of biological sciences, material science and other related fields. Other services also being offered include sputter coating, Energy Dispersive X-ray (EDX) analysis and light microscopy.
EMSL Services and Indicative Rates
RATES (As of April 2024)
- COMPLETE SAMPLE PROCESSING FOR SCANNING ELECTRON MICROSCOPY (SEM): ₱8,800 per batch of 3 samples (excluding imaging/viewing fee)
- ION COATING FOR NON-CONDUCTING/BIOLOGICAL SPECIMEN: ₱600 per run (max of 5 samples per run)
- COMPLETE SAMPLE PROCESSING FOR TRANSMISSION ELECTRON MICROSCOPY(RESIN EMBEDDING): ₱15,000 per sample
- ENERGY DISPERSIVE X-RAY ANALYSIS: ₱3,500 per sample
- LIGHT PHOTOMICROGRAPHY (LM): ₱1,000 per hour, max of 5 images per sample
- High Resolution Microscope
- Fluoresence Microscope
- Dissecting Microscope
- IMAGING/VIEWING (SEM) ₱3,100 per sample (max of 3 images), depending on the availability of equipment
Conditions:
- Additional charges will be required for specimens that require extra time and supplies for preparation
- Pre-analysis consultation with the client is required prior to imaging.
- Payment of 50% of the estimated charge is required before any EMSL service starts. Micrographs will only be released after full payment has been made.
